Why do I earn 77 cents while a man makes a dollar for the same job? Why can’t I walk down my back road at night and watch the moon reflect off the lake without fearing for my safety? Can you tell me? This past weekend at the Women’s March Orlando I was able to surround myself by strong women asking themselves very similar questions

I’ve been attending the Orlando Women’s March since 2017. This years 3rd annual Women’s march was themed TRUTH TO POWER.

This is a safe space where we can celebrate women and femmes.

They had a day of activities planned in order to uplift us and drive positive awareness on issues that matter! Some activities included marching in the MLK parade, activist yoga and circle of intention activity, tables to sign petitions, bring awareness to causes, photo booth and more fun stuff. The event ended with over 2 hours of keynotes speakers and performance arts like spoken word and an Indigenous Tribal Prayer.

The keynote speakers and performance art were my favorite part.

It’s so important for our community to be aware of issues that are going on in our own backyard. The speakers topics were on crucial issues such as Violence Against Women, Gun Violence Reform, Puerto Rico, Trafficking, Prison Reform and Reproductive Rights. The speakers were simply amazing in not only raising awareness but also informing us of information and how to take action to reform.

This is one event that I always look forward to and a cause that I fully support.
